UPDATE ON REPAIRS TO GLENWOOD RECYCLING & TRANSFER STATION

The Solid Waste Division reports that work has begun to demolish and remove structures that were damaged by a fallen tree at the Glenwood Recycling and Transfer Station in Puna.

The facility has been closed since the tree fell on the roof covering the chutes on June 19, and users have been directed to the Volcano Transfer Station, which is now operating six days a week, and closed on Wednesdays. This schedule will remain in effect at least for the next two weeks.

Demolition and removal work is expected to take 14 days.

Glenwood is anticipated to partially reopen Tuesday, August 16, 2022 weather permitting and resume its normal schedule of Tuesdays, Fridays & Sundays. The Volcano Transfer Station will revert to its normal schedule of Mondays, Thursdays & Saturdays starting August 15, 2022.

A temporary covering will be in place until a permanent replacement is installed.
